This was the week of the Democratic Convention. And it was Magnificent. Historic.
Just like the election itself.
75,000 people watched Obama deliver his speech in person. And an estimated 35 million watched at home.
Here's a smart, engaging, and beautiful brown brother inspiring us to believe again, to take control of our government, to
be our brothers/sisters keepers.
I'm not voting on Obama because he's black, I'd vote on anyone that was offering what he's bringing to the plate.
There’s lots to say about the upcoming election,
But I love the Obamas, you see.
When I look at Michelle Obama, I see a woman with
substance that's on top of her game.
She's Smart. Dignified. Classy.
She stands 5’11 and wears it…well.
When I look at this family, I see unity, pride.
And everything that I've always known black love to be.
These people love each other and you can smell it.
They want more for us and I believe them.
My hope is alive.
It must be awesome for Malia and Sasha to watch
their daddy inspire a nation.
I'm happy that my 5 year old son isn't at all phased by this historic event.
And yes, I will teach him the significance of this election.
But I'm tickled that in his eyes it's normal for a brown man to be running for President.
To him it's the natural process, the way it's supposed to be.
That’s beautiful.
And that’s the point isn’t it?
Yes we can!
Yes we can!

Yes we can! Yes we all can!
I have to agree....I didn't jump on the Obama wagon right away, but the "smell of hope" is....well contagious- I want it for my 5 year old daughter. It is so sweet compared to the bittersweet taste of justice for some that I've become accustomed to in my lifetime. The stench of all the greed and of leaving the little guys behind from the last 8 years has been a bitter pill for me to swallow while we're selling the "American fantasy" of Democracy around the world. And here at "home" it's still 1962 but only for "uppitty" black folks like me....I really hope that Obama gets the chance to change my feeling about this country.
